Happy Thanksgiving

Things we are thankful for:
Daddy: golf
Aunt Pam: all of her family
Uncle Matt: all of the family being able to be together, except for Rusty and he's sad Rusty's not home.
Mikey: HD tv
Marci: Hoover's apartment being across from a Chile's
Me: being close enough to home so that my fam can visit me at school
Moma: Grandma doing better!

we're ALL very sentimental and mushy....especially my dad.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Growing up.

Since I have been out of school long enough for the grace period on my student loans to be over, get a job with a steady salary, spend most of said salary on my New Jersey apartment every month, become accustomed to the fact that I have to make a 45 minute commute to/from work each day, and accept the early-to-bed lifestyle that I never wanted to be a part of, I think it’s safe to say I am now a bona fide adult.

And I hate it.

My parents will be the first to tell me (and you, if you ask them) that I’m being silly and yes, as a matter of fact, everyone has to work. Everyone who wants money has to wake up earlier than they want to every day, somehow get to their place of employment, spend eight pain-staking hours (at least) there, and then trek home only to sleep and do it all again. Until they are 65. Minimum.

But this concept does not work for me. Can I refuse it? I mean there are plenty of people out there who don’t work and still have money (Paris Hilton, Hugh Hefner’s wives, etc). We just need to figure out a formula to earn money. Without working.

In an ideal world, the real money I put towards fake athlete stocks at www.oneseason.com would have hit the jackpot and I’d be rollin’ in the dough after I cashed in my “sportfolio.” But alas, I’m currently down more than half the money I threw into that site, and while I sit around and wonder if the “supply and demand” is ever going to bring my Tony ROMO and Chris PAUL stocks back up to the price I paid for them, I need to think of a better way to make money quickly.

In an ideal world, I would be a writer. Like the kind of writer that can go to their country house, chill out, write when they feel like it, and then come back two months later with a Pulitzer Prize winner, NY Times best-seller that will bring enough bacon home to let me live the life of a jobless person for long enough so that I will have fresh ideas again when I need back to the country house to write. Or the south of France to write. Or wherever will most be able to “hear the voices within.” Probably somewhere warm. With a beach nearby.

Anyways, there’s no real moral to this post, but with Michelle’s birthday creeping upon us, it is a time to stress the fun of college. So make sure you’re making the best of it little Michelle my belle. Quit that waitress job! It will give you more time to make bad decisions. Or lay around and do nothing. Because once you get into the real world, you can’t really afford to do either of those anymore.

Well, I guess you can still rock the occasional bad decision… as long as you get to bed early afterwards!

Shalom from the holyland!

ani rotzah atcha, kelev! (that means "i want you, dog!")

i also learned many very beautiful curse words! for example cuse, manoosh, zienbien, and teem tzizilee. use them anywhere, no1 will know what hey mean. except beware, you will get very dirty looks if you utter them in the holy land. (believe me from experience!)

while in israel i did these things at varying times and in a random order:
-played in the sand that felt like baby powder in tel aviv
-hiked mt arbel
-went to the western wall and touched it thrice (once on shavuot)
-hiked up messada
-watched 4 or more sunrises
-slept no more than 4 hours in a night
-kayaked down the jordan river
-went on a water hike through the jordan river
-floated in the dead sea while i was shmeared in mud
-ate corn on the cob at the beach in eilot
-swam in the red sea
-smoked hookah
-danced on a bar/many tables
-rode a camel
-slept in a bedouin tent

O! and we took japanese tourist pics wherever we went. here are a few:

shalom. ani ohevet atcha.

Nussy the Engineer

This quarter at RIT I've been nearly completely consumed with work on my Senior Design Project. It's the big project all Computer Engineers have to do before they graduate. We worked in groups of 2 or 3 (ours was a group of two). Without getting to nerdy in this post I'll just briefly describe the project as a Handheld TFTP Server (you can get files on it through an Ethernet cable) that also doubles as a USB Mass Storage Device (you can get/put files on it like you would one of those Thumb Drive things). If you want to check out the website we made for it head over to the RIT's CE hosted website. The whole thing was sponsored by GE MDS, a division of GE that wants to use the devices to deploy firmware onto their radio towers out in the field.

Look Ma! I made this!

Youngme / Nowme

I stumbled upon this site (Bonus: It was for an Internet Color Wars) which contains pictures of people recreating pictures of themselves when they were younger. The ones with multiple people are particularly cool. I now know the perfect Grandmothers Day gift (Challenge: Finding a good source picture, and then getting us all together).

(Two posts in one day? MADNESS)

Easy like Sunday Morning Breakfast

I remember it all. Just because I was a little tired (it was 9:30 in the morning!) and had to have Michelle drive because a DUI would have been a very real possibility doesn't mean I don't remember great stories.

Mostly how Grandma's cousin was scolded for remarrying so many times. "You don't have to marry them all. Just have an affair like a normal person". I'm still disappointed Rusty didn't liveblog the event (he was the only one with the technology) or the previous nights celebration.

Come, let us sing a song about Passover and imagine we were at the Sedar.
Drink, Drink Drink, Please Enjoy your Wine
Drink Drink Drink, Then its time to dine
For its Eat Eat Eat, Here At Che Robert's
For its Eat Eat Eat, There's always time to Prepare

Bruncheakfast.

On Sunday we went out for a very early brunch that some might consider a breakfast (9:30) with Grandma. As I drank my small glass of whole milk (mmm), Grams told us a little bit about our family. I'll recap it, because I don't think Michael will remember as he was a little under the weather (hungover).

Her grandfather was thrown out on the streets with his brothers after his father remarried and the new Mrs. didn't like the children. I find this harsh. But, her grandfather was a hard-working and made it rich. He got married to her grandmother (Grandma's Grandma!) and they had 6 kids. Each kid had one child only. Grandma was one of these children.

She said she wasn't very close with her cousins, but one's name was Marty and she said he was very good looking. She also said he died...Of syphilis! One of her other cousins is now over 80 with a three year old child, and she told us about other cousins who all had affairs and many husbands and wives. It's all quite One Tree Hill-like.

Anyway, it was an interesting history lesson of our family. Basically we're descendants of a bunch of run-arounds and scamps!

Just as I expected...

My first post!

Hi Grandma!

Hi world!

Thanks Marci and Michelle for coming to see la Mancha. I banged that bucket as primitively as I could for you guys. In terms of posting on this blog, I've been a slacker. But, I was bored online, clicking away, when I found this:

This is a picture from the new children's book Uncle Bobby's Wedding:

Cute guinea pigs stand in for humans in this sensitive story in which Chloe is not concerned that her favorite uncle is marrying another male, only about how it will affect her close relationship with Uncle Bobby. When he assures her that they can still have fun together, she relaxes and gets into her role as flower girl.

I never knew Uncle Bobby was so progressive! Or what a handsome guinea pig he'd make!

I also took my Apple dorkiness to the next level and published a web gallery using my .Mac account. Basically, I can take pictures on my phone and upload them right away. So, I think I'll be doing that more. Here's the link, and check it every so often b/c I hope to add a few photos a week. You know, whenever the inspiration strikes me in this big city.

Grandma's Theme Song!

A Documentary of Epic Proportions

As I explore the scope and theme of this blog I offer to you all a review of an exceptional documentary. It is a tale of epic proportions (as stated in the title of this blog) that stems all the way back to 1981. Two competitors face off in a classic competition where the margin of error is minuscule and the notoriety enormous. I am of course talking about the documentary King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, the no holds barred tale of Billy Mitchell against Steve Wiebe.

What began as a documentary that just screamed NERD from every frame of its being, slowly evolved into much more than that. Billy Mitchell was widely regarded as one of the best of the best at arcade video games. He got a perfect game of Pac-man and held for a while the highest score in Donkey Kong. No one came close to beating him, until one man from Redmond, Washington dared to dream. Steve Wiebe began to practice and filmed a record breaking score of over one million points. Thus began one of the greatest rivalries of all time. From Billy's underhanded attempts to discredit Steve's performances to refusing to show up and play Steve face to face, the infamy of Billy Mitchell became well known. Never in a documentary have I so passionately rooted for one side and against another (that includes hating you, Michael Moore).

So even if you only have a passing interest in video games it is worth watching King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. If you don't get excited when they start playing Eye of the Tiger when Steve begins training for the Guinness event then you have no pulse.

Little bit about ourselves

We're just six cousins who grew up around Buffalo, NY. (and Cincinatti, OH) (and California.)

A group of six distinct individuals who love to have a good time, eat a good meal and have a good laugh.

So don't be scared.Read our thoughts.

Maybe we'll pass down a little wisdom from Grandma...
